About Dan McLean
I was elected Councillor to represent Ward 13 in the Calgary General Election in October 2021.
I have lived in Southwest Calgary for over 20 years and bring a strong business background to City Hall. I was raised on a farm outside of Camrose and attended the University of Alberta. In 1998, I founded my own business, McLean Golf. Initially, it was a small operation selling golf carts from my acreage. Within a few years, I expanded the business and secured distribution rights for Alberta and British Columbia for the best-selling golf cart in the world. I quickly established Calgary as my home base. Over the past 20 years, I have worked diligently to grow the business while also raising my family. I have three children and an increasing number of grandchildren.
I ran for City Councillor in Ward 13 because I wanted to give back to the community that has supported my business and family for over 20 years. I aim to reverse the rampant spending and continuous tax increases while fostering a more business-friendly attitude to City Council. Ultimately, I seek to work alongside all Calgarians to reclaim Calgary as the best city in the world to live, work, and raise a family.
In four years at City Hall, I have consistently advocated for reduced spending, an increased focus on public safety, and a more common-sense approach to governance. While there have been some successes during the current term, it has become evident that we will need a new Council to improve conditions for residents in Calgary. The current Council has consistently passed policies that are at odds with the wishes of residents, such as the blanket rezoning policy that was passed in the Spring. My focus in the next term will be to get back to the basics of effectively managing the City while better reflecting the will of residents in decisions.
