Cut Waste / Lower Taxes

Cut Waste / Lower Taxes - Dan McLean for Calgary

Cut Waste / Lower Taxes

Background

  • Out-of-Control Spending:

    • Operational expenditures increased from $3.98B to $5.38B a 35% rise in just 4 years.

    • Despite higher spending, City services are in decline roads, water, transit, green spaces, and pathways are all deteriorating.

  • Lack of Transparency & Accountability:

    • Taxpayer dollars are being spent without clear results or improvements.

    • Calgary now has the worst-rated roads among major Canadian cities (26% rated “poor” by the city itself).

    • Poor maintenance led to preventable infrastructure crises, like the recent water issue.

    • Green spaces and pathways are neglected and poorly maintained.

  • Council's Track Record:

    • Four significant tax increases this term all of which I opposed.

    • No visible improvements in services despite growing budgets and staff numbers.
